Thank you for the feedback yesterday! Lots of giggles and thoughtful conversations came my way :).
One of my students wrote back this morning and said something really cool. She said that as we get better at noticing and managing our negative self-talk (the fearful voice), it starts to do whatever it can to survive. She used the analogy that the negative self-talk is a virus, and we have developed antibodies to that virus, so it mutates to try again. I think this is a really cool analogy, because it’s true - that voice will show up in whatever way it can. We do get better at seeing it, and even as it mutates we will get better at catching it with all its tricks. But it’s good reminder, along with yesterdays “you can’t skip act 2”, that it’s always gonna show up.
Because of this, it’s really helpful to have friends that are in this world too. The world of bettering themselves in an honest, vulnerable way. Yesterday, after spending 1.5 hours on the phone with my friend dealing with my fears and uncertainties, we did the same thing for something she was going through. We are both doing the work, so it’s really easy to work together within that. We are able to listen to what's real, not only because we know each other, but because we know ourselves, and we know what fear, and doubt, and insecurity look like. For this reason, my “act 2” was only 1.5 hours, whereas in the past, it might have been a few days! Weeks!
This week - I might be sending a couple of activities your way. Take em or leave em, but this is an opportunity for you to connect with your people. To get a little more honest with those around you (if you don’t already do that), and to open up possibilities within yourself, your friends, and your relationships as a whole. :)
Have a lovely Sunday,
