Everywhere I look I see information about how to overcome your emotions

Everywhere I look I see information about how to overcome your emotions

How to control them

How to feel better

How to get them back to “normal,” which seems to be a precarious mix of “I’m fine,” and some smiles

When I set out to do these photos, I noticed, everywhere that healing is involved, we see pictures of people smiling in really complex yoga poses, and perfectly calm in meditation

But that’s not the truth of healing

Nor is it the truth of existence.

But we don’t want to tell people that because then they won’t want to do it

And I get that.

But what if we could stop aiming for some weird, robotic standard of “normal”, and start aiming for FULL. VIBRANT. TRUE.

What if instead of getting better at redirecting and controlling (which seems to be the root of MANY, if not all, of the oppressive systems we have created) we could get better at listening, opening, trusting?

What if we could get good at being with the reality that lives inside of us, and between us?

What if we could get good at feeling, instead of overcoming the feeling?

When we honor the truth of what’s happening inside of us, whether we THINK it’s “good” or “bad”...

It feels good.

It feels GOOD to honor the wisdom in our bodies, even if (and sometimes especially when) our minds say it’s bad.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live my life feeling bad, telling myself to feel better.

I want to actually feel whole.
Honest.
Alive.
Turned on.

I want to love ALL of the pieces of me, not just the put together ones.

I want to carry myself through the challenging emotions, not only because I know that they need to be processed so I don’t store trauma and tension in my body forever, but also so I can experience life as the truth of who Jessie is.

You CAN get TURNED ON by your triggers.
By your sadness.
By your frustration.
By your resistance.

You can HOLD the whole of who you are, and what really moves through you.

You can actually get a kick out of this ride.
Regardless of how it’s going.

We are on it anyway, might as well make it sweet and pleasurable.
